Kayaking Fiji

Waya Island, Yasawa Group, Fiji

We spent about two weeks paddling the Yasawa chain of islands. Lots of vertical relief, complete with coconut trees, waterfalls and villages.

Friends in Somosomo Village

The family who so kindly brought us into their home, fed us, and treated us SO WELL. Ben, his wife Saryana, and daughter, Stella. We literally got blown into this village, and stayed three wonderful days. The photo's a bit dark here because we left early in the a.m. to have calmer seas. The whole family got up at 5 a.m. to see us off.

The Harvest

John and Ben do a little gardening in the community plot (it's a yam). For every root that Ben dug up, he planted a new shoot nearby. We ate so well here-- how about some Spider crab in coconut creme sauce with onions, nama (seaweed) lime juice and hot chilies. Hmmmm.
